Obituary for Richard Patrick Lauch

Richard Patrick Lauch

Richard Patrick Lauch (“Dick”) of Cincinnati, age 84, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by family, on March 3, 2018. Beloved husband of the late Martha A. (nee Zerhusen), loving father of Linda, Gary (Holly) and Joseph, caring grandfather of James, Brittany (Nick), Rebecca, Emily, Carly and Brady, and great-granddaughter Matilda. Preceded in death by parents Philip G. and Marie (nee Mohlenkamp), loving step-mother Virginia B. (nee Purdy) and brothers Philip G. Jr., Lincoln (Clotilda), and Robert. Also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Born March 17, 1933, and raised in Norwood, Richard attended St. Peter & Paul Academy and Purcell Highschool. While still in high school he enlisted in the Navy Reserves and upon graduation joined the United States Marine Corp., with which he served as an airplane mechanic in the Korean War. After returning to the states, he completed his undergraduate degree at University of Dayton, then returned to his hometown and obtained his master’s degree at University of Cincinnati. Richard was an employee of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he conducted and published numerous studies on the protection and conservation of clean drinking water. Richard enjoyed spending his free time coaching his sons’ soccer team, golfing, visiting the racetrack and rarely missed a Cincinnati Bengals or Reds game. He was a loving and dedicated caregiver to his beautiful wife, Marty and an exceptionally devoted and generous family man. After 42 years, he happily retired, traveled the world and played an extremely active role in the lives of his grandchildren. He was a long-time member of the Anderson Senior Center and an avid participant of their walking club, enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and frequent get-togethers with his family and lifelong friends.
